Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the teeth whitening process?
A. Teeth Whitening is actually a bleaching process that lightens discolorations of tooth enamel. Accu-White uses an effective oxygenated whitening solution that uses two comfortable trays either from your dentist or by using our SoftGuard™ Tray (1 upper arch, 1 lower arch) that is put over your teeth for only 15 to 30 minutes per day until you have reached your desired whitening level.
Q. How does Accu-White remove stains:
A. Our system removes most stains with a powerful and yet gentle action that whitens and protects your teeth. As Accu-White is broken down, oxygen acts within the stained organic deposits, which oxidizes them to a whiter shade. This process makes the overall tooth color closer to its natural unstained color as your tooth structure remains unchanged. Crowns, bridges, bondings, and fillings do not lighten.
Q. What is the treatment procedure?
A. The first step is to make sure you have your trays. If you do not have professional trays from your dental professional, our kits comes with special polymer removable trays with detailed instructions included. You will then apply Accu-White inside the reusable trays and place over your teeth.
Again, since our system is stronger that what you can get over the counter, you can treat your teeth for only 15-30 minutes per day. In most cases, you will see results within 4 days.
Q. Is the whitening process permanent?
A. For most people, the treatment will last several years. Remember, your teeth have become stained in the first place from consuming the foods and beverages in your diet. Upon the completion of your initial bleaching process, your teeth are restored closest to their natural white color. Exposure to foods, drinks (especially coffee, colas and red wines), smoking and other foods will gradually stain teeth again over time.
Q. How important are trays?
A. Having a tray is essential to assure proper bleaching results. Non-molded mouthpieces may cause inconsistent bleaching or spotting on the teeth and they are uncomfortable to wear. This is also true with whitening strips on the market today. Imagine putting a piece of tape on your teeth. Does that do the trick? I didn't think so either....
Q. What is the difference between the thermoforming trays and the professional trays?
A. Both mouthpieces are safe and effective. Since they are trimmed at the gingival line, they help you save bleaching gel and are better for people who may have sensitivities to whitening gels on their gums. In addition, having molded trays helps spread Accu-white evenly over your teeth giving you a consistent treatment.
Q. I already have a set of moldable mouthpieces. Can I buy just the whitening just the gel?
A. Yes, we sell Accu-White whitening gel separately. It can be used with any dental tray in the same way as your previous whitening gel.
Q. Why is your product better than other whiteners?
A. Simply put, other products do not work as effectively as our case studies have shown. Some over-the-counter trays are not moldable to your teeth and do not hold the gel in the proper position. Many OTC whitening gels are not thick enough to stay in place and will leak out of the tray. In addition, these other products typically have less of effective active ingredient or a lower concentration of active ingredients.
Q. What causes tooth discoloration?
A. There are many causes. The most common include consumption of foods, coffee, tea, wine, sodas and smoking and medications. In other words, your teeth naturally get more and more stained as time goes on and we continue to live our lives.
NOTE - Tetracycline discoloration and artificial dental work are usually not greatly responsive to teeth whitening.
Q. Who may benefit from tooth whitening?
A. Almost everyone. However, there are some cases where treatment may not be effective. Tooth whitening is ideal for patients who have healthy, unrestored teeth and would like a whiter, brighter smile. There are also case studies that have shown reduction in gingivitis which is a great health risk and linked to heart disease.
Q. Is it safe to bleach my teeth at home?
A. Yes, our at-home bleaching system is specially designed to be an easy-to-use system with detailed usage instructions. Over a decade of research indicates that whitening teeth with our system is safe and effective.
Q. How long does the bleaching process take?
A.Results are dependent upon each individual characteristic of each person and the daily wear-time of their trays, but most people usually see results within the first week.
Q. Are there any side effects?
A. Some people experience temporary tooth sensitivity during treatment. Others have reported discomfort in the gums or in loose fillings.
Gum irritation usually disappears within 1-3 days after beginning the procedure and always upon the discontinuation or completion of treatment. There are no other significant side effects.

Q. How much whitening gel does it take per treatment?
A. Each individual tray application uses approximately 1/4 to1/2cc of whitening gel. The lower amount treatment is accomplished by 3 things: 1.experience of using the whitening process, 2.dabbing just a small amount of gel in the frontal portion of each tooth exposed when smiling only (no need to whiten unexposed teeth), and 3.most importantly, using a tray.
Standard Informed Consent
Professional teeth whitening techniques are designed to lighten dark; stained teeth. Clients apply an oxygenating or peroxide type material at home using one of the several techniques. While these materials have been used for this process since 1989 appear safe, infrequent side effects can occur. Tooth sensitivity or tingling is the most common side effect. Soft tissue irritation can also occur. If a client experiences these or other adverse symptoms, he/she should stop using the bleaching material, and consult their treating dentist. If the patient has any known chemical sensitivity or allergic reactions to ingredients such as flavorings, color additives, etc. please be sure to inform your dental professional.
Clients should understand that the amount of whitening and its duration might vary. While most teeth lighten to the extent desired, some do not. In some instances lightening is minimal or unapparent. In all instances, additional whitening over time may be required to maintain the lightening originally obtained.
